Description

Currently LSAs don't have any information related to time other than expiration time. It'd be helpful to have timestamp information in LSAs.
A timestamp is recorded in the LSDB when the LSA is received (or sent for the first router), but the timestamp is not included in the LSA.

Dr. Wang said the following:

There are two options:

  1. The timestamp is included in the LSA when the LSA is originally sent the first router.

  2. A timestamp is recorded in the LSDB when the LSA is received (or sent for the first router), but the timestamp is not included in the LSA.

This is a design issue. I’m not sure whether to do #1, but at least we should do #2.

After discussion, Alvy, Ashlesh, and myself conclude that there are no obvious use cases for this, so it's rejected.

Looks like we may have a use case for this, after all.
