Although I agree with some semantical issues with Face.put(Data) method, it is necessary as Face should be the only lower-layer public interface to work with Interest and Data packets.

Additionally, some of the common high-level operations for Interest and Data packets needs to be grouped under the umbrella of Face abstraction. For example, processing LocalControlHeader (attaching annotation to Interest/Data abstraction on decode and wire format on encode).
